Welcome to Department of Production Engineering

Our department, established in 1984 with an intake of 30 (UG) students, has grown in size and stature and offers undergraduate course of Production Engineering with an intake of 60 students and a postgraduate course  M. Tech. in Mechanical-CAD/CAM (intake: 25).Undergraduate course of Production Engineering and Postgraduate course of Mechanical-CAD/CAM were first accredited in December 2003 with ‘B’ grade for a period of three years. And subsequently, in December 2007, continuation of accreditation was conferred for both the courses.                         

Ours is FIST sponsored department (50 lakhs). The department is well equipped with resources like highly qualified faculty and staff, well equipped laboratories and workshop, modern facilities for tool engineering and manufacturing support (design, analysis and manufacturing), state of art computational & CAD/CAM facilities, departmental library, students’ association (PESAM), etc. Research and development activities in the fields of NCMP, CAD/CAM, CAE, etc are the major features of this department.

Our alumni are highly placed in sought after industries and administrative services. There is a good trend for students going for higher studies as well. A number of them have even established their own enterprises.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs):

  1. Provide knowledge and skills of broad spectrum of manufacturing processes.
  2. Develop capabilities of Product Design and Analysis through learning opportunities to work with up-to-date platforms in CAD/CAM/CAE.
  3. Provides students with requisite philosophies tools and techniques of operations management for becoming key players in any business organization.
  4. Encourage students to acquire knowledge application aptitude for basic sciences, environmental issues, analytical abilities; self initiated learning and team working.
  5. Develop soft skills, professional skills, leadership qualities in students to become a successful engineer / entrepreneur.
  6. Provide foundation for taking up a higher studies and administrative services in India and abroad.

Programme Outcomes (POs):

a)    Graduate will demonstrate a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, machines, mechanisms and tooling. 
b)    Graduate will demonstrate abilities in planning, controlling and optimizing manufacturing processes and systems.  
c)    Graduate will demonstrate ability in development and analysis of products, components and tools.  
d)    Graduate will demonstrate the ability to improve productivity and system efficiency through elimination of waste and wasteful activities. 
e)    Graduate will be broadly educated in terms of recent advances in Product Engineering.
f)    Graduate will demonstrate an ability to visualize and work as a part of a team on practical and industrial tasks. 
g)    Program deploys graduates towards understanding and implementation of engineering economics and management principles.
h)    Program caters to personality and soft skill development including effective communication. 
i)    Graduate will demonstrate aptitude and capabilities towards higher studies, administrative / engineering services, capable of self-initiated learning and will appreciate the associated values.  
j)    Graduate will be oriented to be an entrepreneur.  
k)    Graduate will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Basic Sciences, Humanities and Mathematics.
